What is "Fun Inc" and Why Do We Care
Are three people enough for changing the world of business?
We built Fun Inc. with the intention of changing the world of business and making it a better environment for humans committed to doing their best work. What hides behind our name is not an incorporation. It's an anagram for "Fun in Companies," our company target and desired personal goal of all three co-founders.
Having many conversations with businesses of any size, we faced a common theme - teams and individuals are tired of the rat race mentality, often scared for what's to come, and distracted from what is truly important: embracing challenges head-on, overcoming all hurdles and being genuinely successful by gaining knowledge and experience along the way.
But also,
What is our area of expertise, and why do we think we can discuss workplace improvements
Our team has years of experience in personalized software services, strategies for company growth, scaling, sales, marketing, and branding. We live and breathe events and are always excited to pull one, live or remote, and have fun with collaborators and customers while doing it. We’ve been part of many teams, but we've been the most successful as individuals when part of a happy and productive team.
But expertise alone doesn’t make for a great workplace. To truly thrive, teams need an environment where they can enjoy their work — where ‘fun’ is a part of success.
But wait, what do you even mean by 'fun'?
As with many other things in life, fun is subjective and individual. At a recent event, we had a small group session about building a fun workplace environment, and we’ve heard so many different qualifications for this word.
For our session buddies, 'having fun' meant:
being heavily challenged with a technical issue
having a complex team management task
building more efficient processes so teams have time for informal talks and meet-ups
wearing a blue wig on a Star Wars-themed team call
spending quality time with family and friends without being impacted by urgent requests
They all sounded like very simple (and achievable) joys in life, challenges, and opportunities for personal or team growth. Nobody mentioned office pizza nights or mandatory team bonding exercises. Everyone’s core desire was to make a long-lasting impact.
Why do we care, and what would be the path to change?
Reverse engineering the concept of 'fun' at the workplace, we ended up on top of business, talking about solid company strategy, processes, and decision-makers.
Sure, you can be an environment changer in your small team of four, but if your goal is to change the business, you should impact the upper layers. A common case is senior leadership never being aware of a problem that exists within the teams. The bigger the company, the farther the CEO is from daily engineering struggles or marketing and sales misalignments.
We've been there.
And we want to provide actionable advice to anyone who feels their company needs a mindset shift.
